Jordan Peterson zu „harmlosen Männern“ vs. „Die Zähmung des Biests“

Ein interessanter Artikel verweist auf ein Zitat von Jordan Peterson dazu, was Frauen an bestimmten Männern interessant finden:

Many modern men have been propagandized to believe that modern women want nice, sensitive, empathetic guys who make them feel safe.

And then they are perplexed and frustrated when they eventually find themselves dumped, divorced, or relegated to the friend-zone for perpetuity.

Gut, dass es auch sehr vereinfacht dargestellt. Frauen wollen ja durchaus auch gewisse Anteile an Nett, sensibel und empathisch. Nur eben in einem Mann, den sie heiß finden. Was wieder durch ganz andere Faktoren bestimmt wird.

According to Jordan Peterson—clinical psychologist, professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, and popular speaker—such results are not surprising. When he spoke to a gathering of people earlier this year, his thoughts on what women really want in a man supported a stereotype that still has popular cachet: that women are attracted to assholes.

Okay, so there’s a bit of hyperbole in the stereotype. I don’t really believe that “asshole” is the most accurate designation for the kind of man that a woman wants. But the hyperbole gets at a truth that Peterson more eloquently teases out in his thoughts, some of which I have transcribed below. (By the way, his thoughts came in the context of comments on the topic of cultural appropriation, which he said is “absolute nonsense”.)

„Frauen stehen auf Arschlöcher“ ist ja in der Tat ein alter Spruch, der so absolut nicht richtig ist. Sie stehen eben auf gewisse Aspekte, die einige „Arschlöcher“ gut bedienen, aber meist kommt ein mehr dazu.

Aber mal sehen, was Jordan Peterson sagt:

“It’s been really interesting for me to watch the response… of young Caucasian males to hip-hop. You know, there’s an aggressiveness about hip-hop that’s really attractive to young Caucasian males. And there’s something absurd about the spectacle of the young Caucasian males taking on the persona of inner-city black gang members. But I’m sympathetic to it because there’s an aggressiveness to that art form that’s a necessary corrective to the insistence that the highest moral virtue for a modern man is harmlessness—which is absurd.

Women don’t even like harmless men; they hate them. They like to claw them apart. What women want are dangerous men who are civilized; and they want to help civilize them. That’s Beauty and the Beast.

How many of you know what a Harlequin Romance is?… So those are archetypal stories. That’s the taming of the wild man, essentially, by the desirable and virginal woman. And if you think women don’t want that then you bloody better well come up with an explanation for Fifty Shades of Grey, which is the most rapid-selling novel in human history, and emerged at exactly the same time as all of this noise about the absence of gender roles is being produced en masse.”

Das ist ja durchaus eine sehr interessante Sache: Sie passt zu den evolutionären Erklärungen: Ein hochstehender, gefährlicher Mann, der aber auch in der Gesellschaft leben kann, der deren Regeln kennt und mit ihnen umgeht, zumindest die Regeln seiner Gesellschaft, und der dann auch noch gegenüber der Frau zivilisiert ist, von dieser zivilisiert wird, weil sie ihm etwas bedeutet, dass kann ein interessanter Fang sein.

Peterson further bolstered his case by revealing a blush-worthy statistic: what Google engineers discovered as “the five most desirable male entities” used in female pornography. They were:

1) Vampire
2) Werewolf
3) Billionaire
4) Surgeon
5) Pirate

As you’ll notice, weak guys that act like doormats to women didn’t crack the top five.

Vampire, Werewölfe und Piraten sind in der Tat gefährlich, sie haben aber eben wegen dieser Gefährlichkeit in ihrer idealisierten Form eine besondere Wertigkeit: Es ist der erfolgreiche Pirat, der in den Romanen der Love Interest ist, es ist der in seinem Clan eingebundene Vampire oder Werwolf, der dank dieser Eigenschaft über den Menschen steht (und wenn seine Tarnidentität auch noch ein Millionär, Adeliger oder sonst was ist: Um so besser).
Der Chirurge fällt da sicherlich etwas raus, er hat allenfalls einen hohen Status und eben als selbst unter den Ärzten noch herausgehobener Spezialist aus Sicht vieler sicherlich auch andere Eigenschaften wie Geld etc aber er ist nicht gerade gefährlich. Der Billionäre hat immerhin wirtschaftliche Macht, kombiniert mit ein wenig BDSM wie in „50 Shades“ bringt er dann auch eine gewisse Gefährlichkeit mit sich.
